A Thai man attempting to dine for free at a barbecue restaurant was apprehended by police yesterday after the restaurant owner caught on to his scheme. The incident occurred at a popular barbecue restaurant owned by TikTok user @autowheel, who shared the event through a series of videos on the platform.

Captured on CCTV, the man entered the restaurant wearing a backpack and sunglasses, ordering food and a beer like any regular customer. After finishing his meal, he pretended to approach the counter to pay but began loitering outside, seemingly trying to avoid payment.

The owner, standing near the exit, observed the man’s movements and confronted him. Under pressure, the man eventually took out 20 baht from his bag and offered it to the owner, who refused to accept the insufficient amount.

The man then started wandering around the restaurant, prompting the owner to follow him closely. Eventually, the owner managed to get the man to sit down at a table while waiting for the police to arrive. The police were then called to the restaurant to handle the situation and subsequently escorted the man away.

In a follow-up video, a conversation between the owner and the man reveals the latter’s excuses. He claimed he was waiting for his girlfriend, who hadn’t arrived and decided to eat alone. When asked about the bill, which included two beers, the man offered only 20 baht, apologising and stating he was afraid of being pranked.

He also mentioned that his documents were with his girlfriend, complicating matters further. The owner, unswayed by his excuses, insisted on waiting for the police.

While waiting for law enforcement, the man identified himself as Song and mentioned his girlfriend’s name was Da. He offered to walk to the police station or a nearby location. However, the police arrived shortly after and took him into custody, reported KhaoSod.

The incident, which took place yesterday, August 20, has garnered significant attention on social media. The TikTok videos posted by @autowheel have sparked a mix of reactions from viewers, ranging from amusement to disbelief at the man’s audacity.

“I can’t believe someone would go to such lengths to avoid paying for a meal.”

“The owner handled the situation well, showing patience and firmness.”
