Thai border patrol seizes illegal online gambling equipment
The Thai police intercepted a significant haul of computer equipment allegedly intended for an online gambling operation, marking a crucial step in curbing illegal activities along the Thai border.
Border patrol soldiers and police seized the equipment near the Myanmar border in Tak province. The cargo was reportedly en route to Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo province, a known hub for gambling and scam operations.
A border patrol unit from the army’s Ratchamanu Task Force stopped a truck carrying boxed computers, monitors, power banks, and other items near Ban Wang Ta Kien Tai in Tha Sai Luat subdistrict of Mae Sot district yesterday night, according to a spokesperson.
The cargo was confiscated, and one suspect was detained but later managed to escape.
This incident follows a similar seizure of computer and peripheral equipment in the Mae Pa subdistrict, Mae Sot district of Tak. Thai police believe the equipment belonged to the same illegal operation and was destined for the same location, reported Bangkok Post.
