Support floods in for social activist battling costly illness in Thailand
Residents in Kanchanaburi, West Thailand, have rallied to help aid a social activist suffering from severe illness due to a lack of protein caused by a stomach disease. The activist, Mint, appealed for help as her medical expenses reached 4,000 baht per day.
Mint, the owner of the Facebook page “ชื่อ’อ มิ้น’น,” posted a heartfelt plea for donations to cover her daily medical expenses.
“I humbly request donations as my expenses are 4,000 baht per day, which I cannot afford. I have exhausted all my funds. If the target amount set by the doctor is reached, I will stop accepting donations immediately. Every baht will be used for my treatment and not for any other purpose. #Account 7180458295, Krung Thai Bank, Account name: Areerat Mai Buakhiao (this is the only account).
“Please share this post. I am receiving treatment at Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital and am severely protein-deficient due to my stomach disease.”
The post garnered significant attention, with many expressing their well wishes for Mint’s speedy recovery. The Facebook page also featured photos of Mint lying in a hospital bed and another post showing her mother sitting close by, gently stroking her forehead for comfort.
On Mother’s Day, August 12, Mint is seen offering a garland of jasmine flowers to her mother, accompanied by the caption, “Today is Mother’s Day, and I will fight to the end.”
Medical costs
Comments flooded in, with most people wishing Mint a quick recovery. Many generous individuals, including those familiar with her, donated money to her bank account to help cover the substantial daily medical costs.
Bandit Intawirat, the owner of another Facebook page, posted that Mint has worked with him on numerous projects as a true volunteer.
“She never declined any activity, always ready to help. Seeing her in this condition is heartbreaking. She has helped many people before. During times of crisis, we always worked together. I encourage you to stay strong, Mint. I will find a way to help you as much as I can. Stay strong.”
Reports also mentioned that on June 27, the Ban Tha Din Daeng School’s publicity page shared images of students donating blood and a few words on helping Minit recover.
“Students from Ban Tha Din Daeng School demonstrated their volunteer spirit by donating blood to Areerat Mai Buakhiao, an alumna of our school, who is receiving treatment at Thong Pha Phum Hospital and requires blood donations of all types. The students wanted to contribute to her treatment.”
The community’s response has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many rallying to help Mint in her time of need. The story highlights the compassion and solidarity of those who have come forward to assist a well-loved social activist in her fight against illness, reported KhaoSod.
