Malaysian woman goes viral for transporting durians on car (video)
A durian-loving Malaysian woman, who cannot stand its strong smell, has gone viral for her unique solution of placing the fruit on the bonnet of her car while driving. She shared her experience on TikTok, receiving widespread attention and mixed reactions from netizens.
Durian, often dubbed the king of fruits, is known for its divisive nature: people either love it or hate it, primarily due to its pungent smell. This particular incident highlights the lengths to which some enthusiasts will go to enjoy the fruit without enduring its infamous odour.
The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, posted a video on her TikTok account showing her unconventional method of transporting durians. Instead of keeping them inside her car, she placed the durians on the bonnet, thus avoiding the smell while driving. The video, lasting 34 seconds, features the caption: POV: When you like durians but can’t stand the smell.
Throughout the video, the durian box remained securely in place, not falling off despite the car’s movement. This creative approach quickly caught the attention of social media users, making the clip go viral in Malaysia. Numerous comments poured in, with people expressing amusement and concern over her method.
“Everything would be fine until someone walks by and grabs the durian while the car is parked on the street.”
Another user admitted they initially couldn’t tell that the durian was placed outside the car. Some commenters offered alternative solutions, suggesting she could place the durians in the boot and leave it slightly open or use pandan leaves to neutralise the smell.
The video sparked a variety of reactions, with many finding the woman’s strategy both funny and clever. However, there were also worries about the safety of the durians, with concerns they might fall off or be stolen. Despite these mixed feelings, the video continued to garner likes and shares, reflecting the strong engagement it received from the online community, reported Khaosod.
