Single mother and children flee harassment by tenant in Nonthaburi

A single mother and her three children faced threats, harassment, and assault from a tenant in their Nonthaburi home, prompting them to flee and relocate for their safety.

The incident, shared on social media, occurred on April 18 at 10.24pm near the dormitory in Soi Liang Mueang Nonthaburi 10, Bang Kraso, Mueang Nonthaburi district.

The victim, 34 year old Khwanchanok, explained that she and the perpetrator were not romantically involved or past partners. They merely rented rooms in the same building.

The man, noticing her status as a single mother, attempted to befriend her, but she declined due to her responsibilities towards her three children. The harassment began around December 2024, when the man intruded in her room while her youngest daughter, aged nine, was asleep.

He reportedly hugged her daughter on several occasions, a behaviour suspected to have started in October. However, her daughter only recently disclosed these incidents, having been threatened by the man to remain silent under the threat of death.

Khwanchanok reported the matter to the Rattanathibet Police Station on December 20, 2024. They initially agreed on a compensation of 10,000 baht (US$300), which was negotiated down to 6,000 baht (US$180), payable in two instalments of 3,000 baht (US$90) each.

An agreement was recorded to cease contact. Despite this, the harassment continued, with the perpetrator often drinking with friends and verbally abusing her.

On April 18, after returning from a Songkran celebration with her children, Khwanchanok encountered the man drinking outside the dormitory with friends. He shouted profanities at her, threw a chair, and attacked her near the rubbish disposal area.

He physically assaulted her, pushing her to the ground and attempting to slam her head against the pavement. Despite her resistance, he continued the assault until her children intervened, pleading for their mother’s safety.

Determined to survive for her children’s sake, Khwanchanok bit the man’s shoulder, forcing him to release her. She sought help from a nearby shop, contacted the police, and was advised to file a formal complaint.

Following the incident, Khwanchanok shared her ordeal on Facebook, seeking support and protection, and decided to move to a new location for her family’s safety. She remains vigilant and cautious whenever she leaves for work, reported KhaoSod.
