Pregnant woman fatally attacks mistress at Bangkok love hotel

An eight-month pregnant woman yesterday fatally attacked her husband’s mistress at a love hotel in the Min Buri district of Bangkok. The man later confessed that he was scared of his wife and did not dare to intervene during the assault.
Officers from Min Buri Police Station launched an investigation at the resort and interviewed staff who witnessed the incident. The victim, 23 year old Potjanart, also known as Oil, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries.
A resort maid, whose name was not disclosed, told police and Workpoint News that Potjanart and a Thai man known only as Bas arrived at the resort in the early hours of yesterday morning, April 21.
The couple booked a room and remained together until Bas’s pregnant wife, 28 year old Worrawan, arrived with her transgender friend at around 7am.
Worrawan was able to locate the room and knocked on the door. When the mistress, Potjanart, opened it, Worrawan immediately dragged her out and began physically assaulting her.
According to the maid, Worrawan repeatedly kicked Potjanart until she lost consciousness. She then reportedly pulled out a knife and attempted to continue the attack, but her friend intervened to stop her.

Bas remained in the room throughout the brutal assault. He only emerged when Worrawan cried and asked him to resolve the matter outside. Upon seeing Potjanart’s injuries, Bas attempted to take her to the hospital.
However, Worrawan tried to prevent her husband from helping the victim, prompting resort staff to step in and successfully transport Potjanart to the hospital. Unfortunately, she later died from her injuries.

Worrawan was taken into custody at Min Buri Police Station and has been detained since the incident. During questioning, Worrawan revealed that she discovered her husband’s affair with Potjanart on April 12.
She had contacted the woman by phone and begged her to end the relationship, stating that she was pregnant. Potjanart allegedly ignored her plea.

On April 19, Worrawan lost contact with her husband and began checking their online activity on social media. Noticing that both were offline, she suspected they were together and headed to the resort, which she recognised as a place she and her husband had visited before.
Worrawan claimed she had not intended to kill Potjanart and had acted out of anger and desperation. She pleaded for temporary bail, citing that she was eight months pregnant and may give birth soon.
Potjanart’s father, 58 year old Noppakhun, and Potjanart’s husband, 29 year old Kai, also visited the police station for questioning. Noppakhun said his daughter had only started working as a party entertainer at a restaurant in the On Nut area of Bangkok a month ago.
Both Noppakhun and Kai insisted they were unaware of the relationship between Potjanart and Bas. Potjanart and Kai had been in a relationship for three years and had a child together, although they rarely met due to conflicting work schedules.

Noppakhun admitted that his daughter was wrong to be involved in another person’s relationship but condemned Worrawan’s actions as excessively cruel. He added that Worrawan did not consider her unborn child while attacking Potjanart.

Bas reportedly prostrated himself at Noppakhun’s feet to apologise and offered him 20,000 baht towards funeral expenses. He claimed he had ended the relationship with his wife but she had refused to accept it and continued to follow him.

Bas admitted he was too afraid to intervene in the violent assault, stating that Worrawan had previously exhibited aggressive behaviour towards him.
Worrawan is charged under the Criminal Law for physical assault causing death, which carries a penalty of three to five years’ imprisonment. Police have not yet clarified whether she will be granted temporary bail.
