Retired police officer rapes Cambodian girl under wife’s complicity
Family's courageous decision to speak out defies threats of deportation

A retired police officer raped a 13 year old Cambodian girl, who worked at his grocery store in the central province of Nakhon Pathom, and reportedly forced her to watch him having sex with his wife.
Chalida “Ton Or” Palamart, founder of the non-profit organisation Be One, accompanied a Cambodian woman and her teenage daughter to Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station yesterday, May 27, to file a complaint against the girl‘s employers.
The male employer is a retired police officer. He and his wife operated a grocery store near a rented room where the girl and her parents live. The retired officer hired the girl to work at his shop for 150 baht per day, while her parents work at a fresh market in the province.
According to the girl’s mother, the incident occurred on May 10, after her daughter had worked there for a month. The rapist’s wife was reportedly aware of the sexual assault throughout and even facilitated her husband’s lewd actions.
On the day of the incident, the woman asked the Cambodian girl to return home to take a shower and come back to work. Upon her return to the grocery store, the girl was ordered to give the retired police officer a massage. The man became sexually aroused and then had sex with his wife in front of the girl.

The young victim did not dare to escape from the scene, so she used her phone and avoided looking at the couple. However, they repeatedly called her name and forced her to watch their sexual activities.
After having sex with his wife, the retired police officer turned his attention to the girl. He began to sexually assault her, but she fought back. Unfortunately, his wife locked the girl’s arms to allow her husband to rape the victim.
The couple threatened the young victim not to reveal the sexual assault to her parents. If she did not comply, the two suspects claimed they would deport her whole family.

The girl reportedly locked herself in her bedroom for seven days and did not speak to anyone. The female suspect came to her home to complain about her absence from work, leading the girl to reveal the whole traumatic story to her parents.
The family then reported the rape to the police, but the couple tried to have the case dropped and attempted to offer the family 50,000 baht to make them give up on the legal proceedings. The Cambodian family feared they would not receive justice, so they contacted the organisation.

The girl’s parents admitted that their stay in Thailand was illegal, and they agreed to return to their home country if their daughter received the justice she deserved.
Following the report on DailyNews, officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security are investigating the case. Local police officers supervising the case have not yet made a statement regarding the development of their operation.
