Princess Sirindhorn opens National Rice and Farmers Day event
Rice dept says event honours monarchs, promotes modern farming for sustainability

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening of the 2025 National Rice and Farmers Day yesterday, June 6.
The event, themed Advanced Agricultural Technology: Promoting New Age Farming and Sustaining Thai Farmers, saw the princess presenting certificates of honour to the central committee of national community rice centres and four outstanding farmers and agricultural institutions.
The event, held at the Non-Agricultural Occupation Promotion and Development Centre in Chang Yai subdistrict, Bang Sai district, Ayutthaya province, included exhibitions from both internal and external agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The princess also observed cultural performances, such as the Pong Lang show, and posed for photographs with ministry officials and farmers. Agriculture Minister Mananya Pinyo Sinwat emphasised the importance of rice as a staple in Thai life and highlighted the event’s aim to honour Thai farmers and share agricultural technology knowledge. The event runs from June 5 to 7, offering insights into efficient rice production, market demand response, and environmentally friendly practices.

The event featured exhibitions honouring the king and royal family for their contributions to rice farming, alongside academic displays and cultural performances.
Nattakit Khongtip, director-general of the Rice Department, noted that the event aimed to honour the contributions of Thai monarchs to rice farming and promote modern farming techniques to enhance food security and farmers’ quality of life. The Rice Department showcased innovations and knowledge in rice production, from high-quality rice varieties to environmentally friendly cultivation techniques, such as organic farming systems and efficient water management.
Other departments under the Agriculture Ministry participated, including the Department of Agriculture, which presented integrated pest management and biotechnology improvements, and the Department of Land Development, which offered soil and fertiliser management techniques. Private sector participants and Thai farmer networks also displayed rice innovations and related products. With over 120 stores selling processed rice products and community goods, the event provided new market opportunities for farmers, reported KhaoSod.
Today, from 11am to 5pm, the event will feature local lifestyle and wisdom demonstrations, mini-concerts by famous singers such as Tree Chaiyanarong and Phet Kathawut, and various competitions. Visitors can also participate in daily gold necklace draws and enjoy home delivery services for rice products purchased at the event.
