Poh Teck Tung Foundation hosts 13.3 million baht charity event

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation organised a major charity giveaway event as part of the annual Teung Krachat festival for 2024, with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt presiding over the ceremony. The foundation revealed that this year’s budget, amounting to 13.3 million baht, was allocated to distribute goods across four provinces.

Leading the foundation, Vichien Techapaiboon, the foundation’s Chairman, along with Advisor to the Chairman Wirul Techapaiboon, Vice Chairmen Dr Sutthas Techawiboon, Sak Korsangruang, and Wichit Chinwongvorakul, as well as committee members and assistants, facilitated the distribution of 20,000 sets of essential items.

These items were given to underprivileged individuals from Bangkok and other provinces, who gathered eagerly to receive the donations. The distributed items included rice, instant noodles, canned fish, fish sauce, vegetable oil, snacks, and more, all packaged in the foundation’s cloth bags. Each recipient also received a transportation allowance of 100 baht.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart led the ceremony, attended by distinguished guests, representatives from the foundation’s affiliates, and honorary volunteers such as Sirivan Opaswong and Siriporn Opaswong. The event took place at the Poh Teck Tung Foundation in Plubplachai, Bangkok.

The atmosphere was filled with generosity as benefactors distributed food and essentials to the waiting public. Foundation staff and volunteers provided support since yesterday, September 1, ensuring the event ran smoothly.

Additionally, several volunteer artists participated in the charity event and provided entertainment. The event was lively and joyful for both givers and recipients.

Vichien highlighted the significance of the Teung Krachat festival, a vital Buddhist tradition passed down since the time of Buddha. The festival involves offering essential goods such as rice and dried food to honour ancestors and unclaimed spirits, then giving these items to the needy. This act of charity and generosity has been a cornerstone of the foundation for over 100 years.

On August 7, August 10, and August 24, the foundation conducted similar distribution ceremonies at its cemetery in Ban Phaeo district, Samut Sakhon province, and at the Huachiew Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinics in Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima province, and Si Racha, Chon Buri province. The total budget for the 2024 Teung Krachat festival, covering all four locations, was over 13.3 million baht, reported KhaoSod.

For over 114 years, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation has expanded its range of projects to alleviate suffering and improve the quality of life for people regardless of race or religion. The foundation aims to be a comprehensive charitable organisation, adhering to its mission of Saving Lives, Preserving Lives, Creating Lives.
