Pickup lines crossed: Truck crashes into Chon Buri home decor store
A dramatic incident unfolded in East Thailand yesterday when a pickup truck crashed into a home decor store, causing significant damage. The driver, appearing intoxicated, claimed he swerved to avoid an oncoming motorcycle. Police are investigating the event, which occurred yesterday, October 30, in Chon Buri.
Police in Pattaya, specifically the Bang Lamung district, responded promptly after receiving reports of a vehicular accident involving a white Ford Ranger pickup truck. The vehicle, registration number จง1257, Chon Buri, collided with a Mercedes-Benz, silver in colour, with the registration number 4ขษ8961, Bangkok. The collision took place on Sukhumvit Road, near the Thepprasit intersection, on the inbound side towards Sattahip.
The pickup truck, out of control after the impact, crashed into a home decoration store, causing severe damage to the glass and merchandise inside. The driver of the pickup truck was later identified as 42 year old Zhang Yuline. Upon inspection, Zhang appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, prompting the police to quickly take him into custody for further investigation.
The shop owner recounted that the pickup driver claimed a motorcycle was travelling in the wrong direction, forcing him to swerve and consequently crash into the shop. The credibility of this claim is yet to be verified, as police intend to examine CCTV footage from the area.
“The driver alleged that a motorcycle was coming against traffic, causing him to swerve into the store,” stated the shop owner when giving an account of the driver’s explanation.
Police officer Sanan Kotanon, who is overseeing the investigation, took Zhang to measure his blood alcohol level to determine the extent of his intoxication. This step is crucial in deciding the legal actions to be pursued, reported KhaoSod.
