Old Thai father becomes homeless after being kicked out by son
Son and his boyfriend cite old man's abusive, thieving behaviour as cause of family dispute

Locals in Samut Prakan province near Bangkok sought help for a 77 year old Thai man, who was reportedly kicked out of his family home by his son and forced to take refuge in a roadside wooden shelter.
Residents of Soi Thesaban Bang Pu 39 in the Tai Banmai sub-district noticed the elderly man, later identified as 77 year old Insom, sleeping under a small roadside shelter for several days. Concerned, they approached him to learn more about his situation.
Insom told residents that his son asked him to leave the house after he accidentally fed the wrong food to the family dog, resulting in its death. He insisted that it was not intentional. He also claimed that his son’s boyfriend insulted him, calling him the “trash” of the family.
Insom said he no longer wished to return home, even though he had nowhere else to go. He had been staying at the roadside shelter for seven days, enduring both heat and rain.
His son, who wished to remain anonymous, denied forcing Insom to leave. He claimed that Insom chose to leave voluntarily and even signed a document confirming this decision. According to him, he gave his father 5,000 baht, as requested, to help him return to their home province of Chiang Mai.

The document stated that Insom agreed to leave the house of his own will because he violated household rules and promised never to return.
The son’s boyfriend explained that the house belonged to him, not Insom’s son, and that he was financially responsible for the household as Insom’s son was unemployed.
He accused Insom of having abusive behaviour, damaging property, stealing money, and giving it to various female strangers he brought home.

The boyfriend added that he checked on Insom daily and had previously invited him to return home, only to be angrily turned away.
Insom admitted he signed the document to receive the 5,000 baht in cash for his daily expenses. Although he had booked a train ticket to Chiang Mai, he missed the train and was left to sleep in the shelter.

After locals shared the story with the media, the Samut Prakan Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office intervened this morning, May 28. Insom stated he no longer wished to live with his son, prompting the officials to seek a long-term solution for his welfare.
