Man stabs ex-girlfriend in Trat, crashes motorcycle while fleeing

A man was apprehended in Trat province after stabbing his ex-girlfriend and attempting to flee on a motorcycle, only to crash 20 kilometres away. He claimed he intended to end his life to escape his wrongdoing. While receiving medical treatment, the injured woman confronted him.

The incident occurred at 7.50pm yesterday, September 4, when a 41 year old man named Kiatchai attacked his 37 year old ex-girlfriend near a convenience store by Bang Phra Bridge in Nong Samet, Mueang Trat. Despite the attack, the woman managed to run for help, spurred on by the shouts of bystanders who witnessed the event.

Rescue personnel from Sawang Boon Foundation in Trat Province received reports of a motorcycle accident in Huai Raeng, Mueang Trat at 9pm. Upon arrival, they found Kiatchai injured with wounds on his neck.

It was soon found that he was the same individual who attacked the woman earlier and fled the scene. The accident site was located 20 kilometres from the initial stabbing location. Rescue staff quickly coordinated with the police to have him detained at the hospital.

When the rescue team brought Kiatchai to the emergency room at Trat Hospital, investigative and patrol officers restrained him by handcuffing him to the hospital bed. He was then treated for his neck injuries, which he claimed were self-inflicted. Kiatchai stated that he had intended to jump off a bridge to end his life but lost control of his motorcycle during the attempt.

While Kiatchai was being treated, his ex-girlfriend, who was also receiving care for her injuries, learned of his presence in the hospital. In a fit of rage, she kicked him, prompting the police to intervene to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Subsequently, Kiatchai was taken in for questioning and charged with attempted murder. Police are also searching for the knife he alleged he discarded during his escape.

The initial altercation had left the community in shock, with many residents witnessing the brutality of the attack and the ensuing chaos. The quick response of the bystanders played a crucial role in saving the woman’s life, said one witness.

“We saw him attacking her and screamed for him to stop. She managed to run away and get help.”

The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, is recovering from her injuries but remains deeply affected by the traumatic event, reported KhaoSod.
