Shocking turn: Lightning bolt transforms military unit into hot spot
Lightning struck a transformer, causing an explosion and subsequent fire at a military unit building in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The old wooden structure sustained damage but fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
The incident occurred at the Explosives Factory Division, Ordnance Industry Centre, Ordnance Department of the Royal Thai Army (RTA), located in Ban Ko subdistrict, Mueang Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district. The fire broke out after lightning struck a nearby transformer, leading to an explosion that spread flames to the old, unused wooden building.
Kannanat Pornnipatkul, an assistant spokesperson for the RTA, confirmed the details of the incident. She stated that the fire happened on October 2 and was promptly reported to the military officers. The fire was quickly contained with the help of military personnel and local firefighters, and it was brought under control by 3pm.
Following the containment of the fire, the RTA tasked the Ordnance Department with assessing any additional damages beyond the affected building. They are also working to clean and restore the area to its normal condition as swiftly as possible, reported KhaoSod.
The response to the incident was immediate. Military personnel, along with fire department officials, moved quickly to secure the area and prevent the blaze from spreading further. Their efforts ensured that the fire was confined to a single building and did not result in any casualties.
In related news, a lightning strike at a cassava plantation in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province claimed one life and left another individual seriously injured.
The incident, occurring around 1pm on September 26, took place near the Huai Yai Municipality Fire Station. Ruangsak Siribut, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Huai Yai Police Station, received the emergency call and arrived at the scene with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation of Pattaya City. Heavy rain and continuous lightning strikes greeted them upon arrival.
