King Vajiralongkorn supports sustainable farming and welfare
King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the agricultural sector, recognising its vital role in the national economy since his days as Crown Prince.
His Majesty has undertaken numerous initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers throughout the country. These initiatives have not only strengthened the bond between farmers and the monarch but also frequently drew inspiration from the legacy of his late father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, whose contributions to agriculture remain deeply cherished by many.
Every year, King Maha Vajiralongkorn presides over the Royal Ploughing Ceremony at Sanam Luang, an event that marks the beginning of the rainy season and serves as an important signal for farmers to commence planting their crops.
The king is a strong advocate of sustainable farming methods. This was evident during his visit to Bueng Phai Khaek in Suphan Buri’s Mueang district, where he demonstrated effective composting techniques in rice farming.
During this visit, he also participated in planting the renowned Pathum Thani 1 rice at a field in Ban Pa Na in the Si Prachan district. Witnessing the monarch sow rice and showcasing his extensive agricultural knowledge left a significant impression on local farmers.
Farmers have also greatly benefited from the mobile agricultural clinics, a programme initiated under his patronage in 2002, which continues to provide essential support and resources to rural farming communities.
One unnamed local farmer shared his appreciation of the king’s dedication to the cause.
“Seeing the king plant rice himself was truly inspiring, It shows his dedication and understanding of our work.”
These efforts by King Maha Vajiralongkorn are instrumental in keeping King Bhumibol’s agricultural legacy alive in the hearts and minds of farmers, many of whom have directly experienced the benefits of these contributions.
“The mobile clinics have been a lifeline for us as another farmer remarked. They provide us with the knowledge and tools we need to improve our yields and sustain our livelihoods, reported Bangkok Post.
