A jealous Thai man physically assaulted his lover today at a rented room in the central province of Prachin Buri and ended up being stabbed to death by her.

The 22 year old Thai woman, Thitinan, called officers from the Si Maha Pho Police Station to the scene of the incident at around 12.45am today, November 28, after she stabbed her lover, 31 year old Samart, to death. Channel 8 reported that Thitinan was seen crying beside Samart’s body when the police arrived.

According to the police report, Samart had a severe stab wound to his neck and a cut on his arm. A 15-centimetre knife with blood stains was found outside Thitinan’s room, which was left open with various items scattered on the floor.

Thitinan told the police that she had been drinking alcohol with her friends outside her room. She then excused herself to use the bathroom and returned to find Samart at the scene.

Samart did not inform her in advance that he would visit her that day and immediately began to complain after seeing her socialising with male friends.

Thitinan claimed that she distanced herself from Samart after discovering that he was already married. She asked Samart to leave and ended the relationship. She then entered her room and locked the door to prevent him from coming in.

Samart cut through the door’s mosquito wire screen and forced his way into her room. They engaged in a heated argument where Samart physically assaulted her.

Thitinan then grabbed Samart’s knife and stabbed him in the neck. Samart ran out of the room to seek help but later succumbed to his injuries outside the rented room.

Although Thitinan claimed the fatal stabbing was an act of self-defence, the police charged her under Section 288 of the Criminal Law with intentional murder. Thitinan may face the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years for her actions.

In a related incident reported in August, a Thai woman stabbed her husband to death with scissors at their home in the Isaan province of Buriram after he exhibited violent and alcoholic behaviour towards her and her parents.
