Thai woman fatally stabs abusive husband to protect old parents
A Thai woman stabbed her husband to death with a pair of scissors yesterday at their home in the Isaan province of Buriram due to his repeated physical abuse of her old parents.
Officers from Khumueang Police Station investigated the fatal stabbing at a two-storey wooden house in the Khumeuang district of Buriram at about 9am yesterday, August 20. They found the 43 year old Thai man, Akom, lying motionless in a pool of blood outside the house.
Akom had four stab wounds to his body. Rescuers from the Sawang Janyadham Foundation rushed to provide first aid but found that the man already died.
The assailant was Akom’s wife, 42 year old Orrawut. She did not flee the scene and waited to turn herself in. She appeared to be in shock and grieved for what she had done.
Orrawut told the police that she stabbed her husband in an attempt to stop him from physically abusing her parents and did not intend for him to die as a result.
According to Orrawut, the couple had been together for over 13 years and shared two children. Their marriage was stable until Akom developed an addiction to alcohol four years ago. Akom frequently abused Orrawut when he was intoxicated and even went so far as to assault her parents.
Orrawut stated that she intervened when her husband was about to harm her parents and ended up being attacked herself. A similar situation unfolded on the day of the incident. Akom rushed to assault Orrawut’s disabled father, who was washing clothes, but Orrawut stepped in to protect him.
Orrawut grabbed a pair of scissors to threaten Akom and make him stop but he ignored her and turned his attention to her mother. Akom struck the elderly woman with a wooden stick and pushed her to the ground. This enraged Orrawut, who then stabbed Akom four times, leading to his death.
In tears, Orrawut expressed her deep concern for her parents, fearing the consequences of her imprisonment. As the family’s breadwinner, she worried about who would care for her parents in her absence.
The police revealed to Channel 3 that no legal charges had been issued against Orrawut at this time. Further investigation and questioning would be conducted to determine the true motive behind Orrawut’s actions before proceeding with legal steps.
