Thai woman fatally stabs herself after dispute with boyfriend
A Thai woman fatally stabbed herself in the leg following a dispute with her boyfriend at their shared home in the central province of Ayutthaya on Saturday, November 16.
Officers from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station were alerted to the incident at about 5am on Saturday and rushed to the scene. Medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital and rescuers from the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Foundation also attended the scene.
The lifeless body of the 33 year old woman, identified as Wanwimon, was found outside the house. A severe stab wound to her right calf caused significant blood loss, leaving a large pool of blood on the ground. Bloodstains were found at multiple locations inside the house.
The 20-centimetre knife used in the fatal stabbing was discovered on the bed shared by Wanwimon and her boyfriend, 29 year old Ratchaphon. Ratchaphon told police that he had been in a relationship with Wanwimon for only two months.
He explained that at around 2am on the day of the incident, Wanwimon left the house on her motorcycle to buy something from a nearby grocery shop.
Upon her return, Ratchaphon questioned her about her whereabouts. Wanwimon explained that she went to the shop but Ratchaphon reportedly doubted her and accused her of being dishonest. This led to an argument during which Wanwimon grabbed a knife and stabbed herself in the leg.
Ratchaphon said he carried her outside the house to take her to hospital but she succumbed to her injuries before he could do so.
He admitted that they argued on numerous occasions and Wanwimon previously attempted to harm herself multiple times.
In an interview with Matichon, Wanwimon’s cousin revealed that she had a history of drug use and was arrested on drug-related charges in the past. She served time in prison and was later released. The cousin added that she rarely saw Wanwimon and only recently learned about her relationship with Ratchaphon.
The medical team concluded that Wanwimon died from excessive blood loss caused by the severe wound to her leg. Police summoned Ratchaphon and the couple’s neighbours for questioning but did not press any legal charges.
