Pattaya: Indian man suspected of girlfriend’s murder found on Thai bridge then escapes by jumping into river

An Indian man suspected of murdering his girlfriend and leaving her body in a Pattaya hotel was discovered mid-escape on Bang Pakong River Bridge, before disappearing into the river.

The incident occurred at 1am this morning, when the deputy superintendent of Bang Pakong Police Station, Pongphop Kudhom, accompanied by Chachoengsao rescue units, responded to a report of a suspicious individual standing in the middle of the bridge.

Upon investigation, they found an Indian man, fitting the description given, dressed in a red shirt, jeans, and a black helmet, standing in the middle of the bridge alongside a black Honda PCX scooter, registered under the Chon Buri license plate, 4 Khor 1092.

As Deputy Superintendent Pongphop was parking his patrol car to approach the Indian man, he saw the suspect climb over the bridge railing and jump into the Bang Pakong River, disappearing below the surface as the tide was going out.

Further investigations identified the Indian man as 37 year old Soni (surname withheld), who was recently implicated in the murder of his 25 year old girlfriend, Jirapha Wongputhakam. He had left her body in a hotel room in Pattaya before fleeing on his scooter to the Bang Pakong River Bridge, reported KhaoSod.

His location was discovered through a video call with an acquaintance, who then coordinated with Pattaya and Bang Pakong police stations to locate him. However, Soni jumped into the river to elude capture immediately upon the arrival of the police.

In related news, back in June, a Thai man murdered his girlfriend at a condominium in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok. He stayed with the lifeless body of his girlfriend for a night before committing suicide.

A condo member of staff, Nopphachorn Vijitjariya, found the lifeless bodies of the couple and immediately reported his discovery to officers at Rattnathibet Police Station. Read more about this story HERE.
