In a scene reminiscent of a Wild West bar brawl, a British tourist got knocked out as over a dozen Thai girls fought for the young traveller’s attention in a notorious Pattaya Go-Go bar.

British tourist Jack Fitzmaurice was having a drink and chatting with some scantily-clad ladies in the Paradise Agogo in the early hours of Sunday morning when all of a sudden two girls started to fight for his affection.

The 28 year old British tourist tried to calm the girls but it resulted in Fitzmaurice being sparked out cold and covered in blood as the Paradise Agogo descended into a massive bar brawl with dozens swapping punches, pulling hair and even using killer stilettos as weapons.

Thai police eventually arrived to quell the disturbance at the Paradise Agogo in the city’s Soi Buakhao neighbourhood—a notorious party hot spot attracting thousands of foreign tourists each week.

Upon their arrival, the police discovered Fitzmaurice battered and bruised, blood splattered all over his face and clothes. He lay sprawled on the ground, having been knocked out before being assisted to his feet for recovery.

The British tourist tried to play down the drama.

“I’ll be alright. I just want to get home to bed.”

Nick Hodge, a fellow Brit present at the bar during the altercation, explained that the fight erupted when two girls argued over their claims on the customer.

“There was a bit of jealousy going on over who was getting which punter. Before I knew it, the girls were fighting. The poor kid only tried to stop them and ended up getting a serious beating. It was like a Wild West bar fight from the old movies. Just mad.”

One of the women involved in the initial bar brawl scuffle, 35 year old Sunaree Tungprakhon, informed the police that she had a broken lip and cuts and bruises on her face. She said the fracas kicked off due to an argument with a fellow dancer but expressed reluctance to press charges due to fear of retaliation from others involved.

“There was a group of about 20 people, punching and kicking until my British friend was involved and also injured. I don’t want to have problems with this group of people; I’m afraid that it will be dangerous.”

The British tourist and his friend provided statements to the police, who are now reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing the bar staff and dancers.

Lieutenant Colonel Natchaphol Saengsi, Deputy Inspector of Investigations at the Pattaya City Police Station, acknowledged that most of the individuals involved were intoxicated but emphasised that it does not justify the bar brawl violence.

“Some witnesses said the injured tourist tried to run away from the bar, but the staff chased him down and attacked him. We are tracking down all the suspects involved and will interview them to ensure fairness to both sides before proceeding with the legal process.”

The incident comes at a time when Thai ministers are contemplating extending nightlife opening hours from 2am to 4am to boost the country’s tourism economy.
