Heavy rain forecast for 30 Thai provinces including Bangkok

High likelihood of rainfall across the nation as typhoon threat still looms

Today, October 8, Thailand is forecasted to experience increased rainfall, with heavy showers expected in 30 provinces, including Bangkok. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning due to a monsoon trough affecting the northern, central, and eastern regions.

Weather reports for 6am today to 6am tomorrow, October 9, are as follows:

In the north, 40% of the area will see thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall in Tak, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun provinces. Temperatures will range from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius (°C), reaching highs of 32 to 35°C, with variable winds at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).

In the northeast, 60% of the area is expected to have thunderstorms, with significant rainfall in Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, and Surin provinces. Temperatures will be between 23 and 25°C, peaking at 32 to 34°C, with easterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.

The central region will also experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, particularly in Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C, with highs of 33 to 34°C, and southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.

In the eastern region, 70% of the area is expected to have thunderstorms, including heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will be between 23 and 26°C, with maximums of 31 to 34°C, and southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, increasing to more than 2 metres in stormy areas.

The southern region (east coast) will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C, with highs of 33 to 34°C, and southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves around 1 metre high, with waves exceeding 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.

The southern region (west coast) is predicted to have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C, peaking at 31 to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves around 1 metre high, increasing to more than 2 metres during thunderstorms.

Bangkok and its vicinity will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some places seeing heavy rainfall. Temperatures will range from 25 to 26°C, reaching highs of 32 to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
