TMD warns of monsoon trough & flooding risk across Central and Southern Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for today, October 14, warning of heavy rain and erratic winds across 47 provinces, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas. The capital region is expected to experience significant rainfall, covering 70% of the area.
The meteorological conditions are influenced by a trough of the monsoon traversing the lower central region, the upper southern region, and the east. This is further compounded by the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the lower southern region, and the Gulf of Thailand, alongside southeast winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea over the northeast region.
Regional weather updates (6am today to 6am tomorrow)
The northern region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, particularly in provinces like Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 23 to 24 degrees Celsius (°C) for lows and 32 to 34°C for highs, with east winds at speeds of 5 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).
In the northeast, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area with heavy rain in some provinces such as Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will range from 22 to 24°C for lows and 32 to 33°C for highs, with east winds at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h.
The central region will see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some provinces like Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Lop Buri, and Saraburi experiencing heavy rainfall. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C for lows and 31 to 33°C for highs, with east winds at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h.
In the east, thunderstorms will occur in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in provinces such as Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C for lows and 30 to 33°C for highs, with variable winds at speeds of 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves around one metre high, rising to over two metres during thunderstorms.
In the southern region (eastern coast), 70% of the area will experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in provinces including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C for lows and 31 to 34°C for highs.
From Prachuap Khiri Khan upwards, variable winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30 km/h, with sea waves around one metre high, rising to over two metres during thunderstorms. From Chumphon downwards, southwest winds will prevail.
In the southern region (western coast), thunderstorms will occur in 60% of the area, mainly in provinces like Trang and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C for lows and 31 to 34°C for highs, with southwest winds at speeds of 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves around one metre high, rising to over two metres during thunderstorms.
Bangkok and its vicinity will experience thunderstorms covering 70% of the area with heavy rain in some places. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C for lows and 31 to 34°C for highs, with variable winds at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h.
