Frenchman’s magic mushroom mishap trip on Koh Pha Ngan

Tourist Police swooped on a 40 year old Frenchman for his dodgy dealings with magic mushrooms on the sun-soaked paradise of Koh Pha Ngan.

The Frenchman, William, who had come to indulge in the tropical party scene, was caught red-handed with 159 grammes of these illicit shrooms, classified as Category 5 narcotics, stashed in plastic bags.

The bust was part of a diligent patrol spearheaded by Police Lieutenant Colonel Winij Boonchit, along with his team, as they ensured the safety and security of revelers during the island’s infamous Full Moon Party.

As officers casually inspected Haad Rin Beach’s public restrooms, they stumbled upon William, conspicuously dressed in a white T-shirt. Alarm bells rang when he attempted a clumsy escape towards a secluded corner, triggering suspicion.

Curiosity piqued, the officers ventured inside, uncovering the Frenchman in the act of packing cow dung mushrooms into bags, with some already washed for use.

Realising the game was up, William spilled the beans, admitting he bought the mushrooms from an unidentified Burmese man for a sum of 2,000 baht, reported Naewna News.

These cow dung mushrooms, commonly referred to as magic mushrooms (Psilocybe cubensis), are notorious for their potent effects on the nervous system. Naturally thriving in dry cow dung piles, the mushrooms display a pale yellow colour, mimicking straw.

The top of the mushroom is dark brown to black, complemented by a distinct white tissue ring near the stem. While some might dub them as a psychedelic delight, they are fraught with risks, with users potentially facing severe health consequences or even death.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pueak-am, the Commander-in-Chief of the Tourist Police Bureau, emphasised an unwavering commitment to stamping out foreign-fuelled misdemeanours that taint Thailand’s tourism image.

“With the High Season in full swing, the directive is clear: no leniency, no exceptions.”

Chiefs of tourist police stations across prime tourist hotspots are urged to intensify their efforts, ensuring that confidence among tourists remains unshaken.

In light of these events, Koh Pha Ngan’s vibrant parties continue under the watchful eyes of the law, promising an experience that’s both thrilling and safe.

William, meanwhile, faces the music as police proceed with legal actions, dismantling the illusion that his psychedelic escapades would go unnoticed.
