Flight fright: Passenger tries to open exit on THAI flight from Taiwan (video)
A tense incident unfolded on a Thai Airways flight when a Thai worker returning from Taiwan experienced hallucinations and attempted to open the emergency exit mid-flight. Quick-thinking passengers managed to subdue and restrain him, averting potential disaster.
A TikTok user, @yao1926.new who was on the flight, shared a video capturing the dramatic event. The user recounted that on the flight TG637 from Taiwan, a Thai passenger suddenly became delirious and attempted to open the emergency exit door.
The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs, causing panic among fellow passengers. However, several passengers acted swiftly and managed to restrain the man, tying him to a seat to prevent any further attempts to open the door.
“I have been flying for over 10 years and this is the first time I encountered such a situation, said the TikToker. Thankfully, everyone remained safe because of the brave individuals who restrained him.”
Upon the plane’s safe landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, police officers and airport staff boarded the aircraft to take the man into custody. The restrained passenger, still tied to his seat, questioned the officers about their location, to which they replied they had arrived in Thailand. The man, in a state of confusion, claimed that he felt the “substance” leaving his system, said one officer.
“The Thai worker was returning from Taiwan on a Thai Airways flight when he became delusional from drug use. He attempted to open the emergency exit, leading to his restraint and eventual arrest.”
Thai Airways expressed gratitude to the passengers who intervened and helped subdue the individual, ensuring the safety and security of everyone on the flight. The airline emphasised that maintaining passenger safety is their utmost priority and that they are constantly working to enhance protocols for dealing with similar situations.
The man involved in the incident will face legal proceedings as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his behaviour, reported KhaoSod.
