Elderly woman abducted and sexually assaulted by drug addict

An elderly woman in Kanchanaburi was abducted and sexually assaulted in a forest at 4.20am yesterday, July 11, with the assailant stealing 5,000 baht. The suspect was captured on CCTV, facilitating a quick arrest by the police.

Police responded swiftly to the incident as witnesses reported a man entering the home of a 64 year old elderly woman in Wangdong, Muang Kanchanaburi. The suspect was seen on CCTV footage carrying the victim into the forest where the attack took place.

Security forces, including Deputy District Chief of Muang Kanchanaburi, Thanayut Phinijmontri, and volunteers from the Kanchanaburi Territorial Defense Company, along with the Surasi Military Intelligence Unit and village leaders, mobilised to investigate.

The suspect was soon identified and located in the village. He was carrying a headlamp, similar to the one seen in the CCTV footage. He was taken to the village headman’s office for questioning and identification by the victim.

The suspect, identified as 43 year old Phattharaphon reportedly confessed to the crime. He allegedly admitted to abducting the woman from her home, covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming, and carrying her to a secluded area where he raped her. After the attack, he stole 5,000 baht from her.

Police found the clothes Phattharaphon wore during the attack discarded in a nearby sugarcane field. The evidence was collected to support the case against him.

Phattharaphon further confessed that after he abducted and stole money from the woman, he used part of the stolen money to purchase methamphetamine and personal items. The suspect also left human faeces at the scene.

The arresting officers conducted a urine test on Phattharaphon, which confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. He was subsequently taken into custody and handed over to investigators at the Ladhya Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

The swift response and collaborative efforts of the security forces and local agencies led to the prompt capture of the suspect, ensuring justice for the victim.
