Elderly man arrested for alleged assault of granddaughter in Phatthalung
An 83 year old man has been arrested at his home in Pa Phayom district, Phatthalung province, following allegations of repeatedly assaulting his 15 year old granddaughter. The arrest of the old man, Somsuk, was executed by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATP), acting on a warrant issued by the Phatthalung Provincial Court dated April 3.
The investigation began after the victim’s family complained to the Pa Phayom Police Station, alleging that Somsuk, who is the girl’s biological grandfather, had been sexually assaulting her since last year.
The girl, known as G, had reportedly been threatened with physical harm should she disclose the abuse. Overwhelmed by the ongoing abuse, she finally confided in her family, prompting them to file a police report.
Upon receiving the complaint, investigators from the Pa Phayom Police Station promptly began verifying the allegations. They collaborated with the ATP to gather evidence and obtained a warrant for Somsuk’s arrest. Despite being apprehended, Somsuk continues to deny all charges.
The police remain unconvinced by his denial and have transferred him to the Pa Phayom Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, the victim’s grandma witnessed a Thai man sexually assaulting his 10 year old niece at her home in the central region of Prachin Buri.
Pornsathit, a 41 year old man, was captured attacking a little girl at her house on June 22 last year. The girl’s grandma had left her alone in the house to complete chores in the backyard.
When she returned, she was shocked by what she discovered. Pornsathit fled the incident and sought sanctuary in a neighbouring woodland along the road. The girl’s mother, Phon, was alerted about the incident and rushed home from work to care for her kid.
Phon called Pornsathit to enquire about the assault, but he denied his involvement, despite being caught in the act.
