Motorbike accident near central Thailand temple sparks police investigation
A motorbike accident involving two fatalities occurred at around 2.30am today on the Bang Khan-Nong Suea road in Pathum Thani. The deputy chief of the Khlong Luang Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Siroj Naenian, revealed that a pickup truck had collided with a motorbike, resulting in the death of the two male motorbike riders.
The motorbike accident occurred near the Dhammakaya temple intersection, roughly 200 metres from the Khlong Luang Police Station. The scene was attended by medical personnel from the Thammasat University Hospital and volunteers from a local charity.
The motorbike, a red Honda Click with licence plate 4Kot-3220, was found overturned near the scene. The two men, who were not wearing helmets, were estimated to be between 25 to 35 years old.
Initial investigations revealed no official identification documents on their persons, only a wallet containing 400 baht. Authorities suspect they were Cambodian nationals.
Not far from the scene, a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with licence plate 1Tor-4319 was found parked on the roadside. The front right wheel arch showed minor damage, suggesting a slight collision. The driver was waiting at the scene for police officials.
The pickup driver, 39 year old Wachara Noriwong, reported that he was driving towards the market. As he descended from the bridge at the intersection, the motorbike, travelling in the wrong lane, swerved into his path.
The motorbike lost control, possibly due to the slippery road conditions after the rain, and slid into his lane. Despite his attempt to avoid a collision, his vehicle slightly hit the motorbike. He then pulled over and reported the incident to the police.
While this was happening, another four-car pile-up occurred nearby, although no injuries were reported from this secondary accident. Lt. Col. Siroj Naenian said that they had documented the scene and would summon the parties involved for questioning to establish the cause of the motorbike accident.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Thammasat University Hospital to determine the exact cause of their deaths, reported KhaoSod.
