Civil defence volunteers in Pattaya underwent their annual training to enhance their support capabilities during public disasters. The programme commenced at 9.30am on Monday, July 15, in the Thappraya Room at Pattaya City Hall.

Theerasak Chatupong, Head of the Pattaya City Permanent Secretary’s Office, led the opening ceremony. Charan Thiammuang, Head of the Maritime Disaster Prevention Department and Acting Director of the Disaster Prevention Division, provided detailed reports.

City Council members Surin Yimyai and Jirawat Proudchai, along with Decha Rueang-on, head of the Chon Buri Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, and Chatchawan Phinsiri, president of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office of Pattaya City and Chon Buri Province, were among the notable attendees. Heads of relevant government agencies also participated in the event.

The training is in line with the city administrators’ policy to prepare for potential natural or human-caused disasters that could endanger the lives and property of residents and tourists in Pattaya and nearby areas. Conducted by the Land Disaster Prevention Department under the Pattaya City Permanent Secretary’s Office, the programme spans five days, from July 15 to 19.

The main goal is to equip trainees with the skills and knowledge from expert lecturers, enabling them to prevent and mitigate dangers. The training is structured under the Ministry of Interior’s regulations concerning Civil Defence Volunteer Units. It ensures that volunteers are not only capable of protecting themselves and assisting others but are also prepared to support the city’s operations during emergencies.

A total of 109 participants attended the training, receiving valuable insights from expert staff from the Chon Buri Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, reported Pattaya News.

In related news, Phuket officials recently conducted a training seminar aimed at educating local community leaders on the use and risks associated with digital media and technology. The event, held at a hotel in Ratsada yesterday, was presided over by Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong.
