Chumphon rubber plantation owner arrested for shooting worker

The arrest of a rubber plantation owner accused of fatally shooting an employee has been confirmed. He allegedly sought assistance to influence his case but received no help. Rumours of his surrender circulated, yet he continued to deny the charges.

The case involves 51 year old rubber tapping employee, Daeng Khan-on, who was found dead after being shot in a rubber plantation in village 8, Lamai subdistrict, Lamai district, Chumphon province. Fellow workers identified the perpetrator as 50 year old employer, Suphanarong, attributing the incident to a dispute.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Surapot Suttikerd, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation at Chumphon Provincial Police, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wiwat Chimmani, Investigation Inspector at Chumphon Provincial Police, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Singha, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation at Lamae Police Station, Yesterday, February 17, led the Chumphon Provincial Police together with the 5th Division police unit to arrest Suphanarong.

He was apprehended in front of a hotel in Wang Tako subdistrict, Lang Suan district, Chumphon province, following a warrant issued by Lang Suan Provincial Court on February 15.

Reports indicate that after the shooting, Suphanarong fled and spread the word through relatives that he was prepared to surrender to Lamae police. However, he never followed through.

Police efforts to track him revealed his constant movement within Lang Suan and Lamae districts, attempting to find someone to assist in resolving his case, but to no avail, leading to his capture, reported KhaoSod.

Initially, Suphanarong acknowledged being the person named in the arrest warrant but denied the murder charge. The arresting officers transported him to Lamae Police Station to document the arrest before proceeding with legal action.
