A crêpe seller found himself the victim of a vicious street attack by two helmeted teenagers on a motorbike, leaving him with 17 stitches. The brazen assault on crêpe seller Chamnan Ponyiam unfolded on the night of February 12 in the Ban Suan subdistrict of Mueang district, Chon Buri.

Chamnan, a long-standing vendor in the community, was on his way home when the two young assailants pulled up beside him at 9pm, feigning interest in his crêpes. But just as he was about to respond, one thug clobbered him on the head with a stick, inflicting a nasty wound.

In their haste, the pair misjudged their balance, causing their motorbike to topple. “Retreat!” one shouted, before they scarpered, leaving Chamnan injured in their dust.

Visibly wounded and shaken, Chamnan reported the incident at the Mueang Chon Buri Police Station, sporting a head bandage and evidence of his 17 stitches.

He suspects the attack might be linked to a recent theft, his gas cylinder swiped from under his nose, and fears the same young hooligans could be behind both incidents.

Despite years of living peacefully in the area, Chamnan is now understandably anxious about returning to his trade, worried about potential repeat attacks.

He remains bewildered by the motive, unsure if it could be related to his candid social media post about the theft.

The violent altercation, which erupted around 10pm, yesterday, February 13, saw gunfire and knife violence break out before the culprits sped off on motorcycles.
