Chachoengsao four-car pile-up on motorway causes injuries

A sudden brake by a van led to a four-car pile-up on the motorway, resulting in injuries and requiring rescue operations. The accident occurred at 5pm yesterday, August 19, with emergency services swiftly responding to the scene.

Police Lieutenant Phudecha Chuamun and the Chachoengsao rescue unit, equipped with hydraulic rescue tools, attended the crash site on the outbound motorway near Bang Bo tollgate, heading towards Thepharak Road (Bang Na-Trat), at kilometre marker 39 in Bang Wua subdistrict, Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province.

At the scene, a bronze Toyota Commuter van with the registration plate ฮบ 4101 Bangkok was found erratically parked in the right lane. The van’s front end was severely damaged, and the driver, 54 year old Kochakorn, was trapped inside.

Rescue workers used hydraulic tools for about five minutes to extricate her. Another passenger in the van was also seriously injured. Both were administered first aid and transported to Chularat 11 Hospital.

Nearby, a grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with the registration plate 3 ฒฆ 1338 Bangkok sustained damage to both the front and rear. Additionally, a grey Honda Civic with the registration plate ญญ 5271 Bangkok and a white Toyota Camry with the registration plate 6 กพ 2677 Bangkok were also involved, each with significant damage to their front and rear ends.

Kochakorn explained to the investigators that she was driving to drop off employees when the vehicle in front of her suddenly braked. She could not stop in time and violently collided with the rear of the pickup truck, causing a chain reaction that involved four vehicles in total, leading to the injuries sustained.

The crash caused considerable disruption on the motorway, with traffic authorities managing the situation and facilitating the clearance of the wrecked vehicles.
