Firefighters battled a fierce blaze that engulfed a house, with strong winds causing the flames to spread to a neighbouring residence, leading to extensive destruction. This incident occurred yesterday, November 18, in Ban Nong Prue, Buriram, and prompted a swift response from local police.

Police Lieutenant Nantikan Amwapan, Deputy Inspector of the Buriram City Police Station, received an emergency call reporting the fire in the Sawai Jeek sub-district. Collaborating with the municipal fire department and the Sawang Chanayathom Buriram rescue unit, they mobilised to the scene alongside other nearby agencies.

Upon arrival, the responders were met with a severe inferno consuming a two-storey half-brick, half-wooden house. Despite deploying over 10 fire engines, efforts to extinguish the flames were hampered by the house’s wooden structure, which acted as a potent fuel source.

The situation was exacerbated by strong winds that fanned the flames, causing the fire to spread to an adjacent house. It took the firefighters over an hour to bring the blaze under control, said a witness, 34 year old Pongsak.

“There was no explosion or unusual noise when the fire started. Suddenly, flames erupted from the second floor of Sanom’s house, spreading quickly. We tried to douse it with water but it was futile, so we alerted the police.”

Sanom, the owner of the first house affected, explained that it was an old residence, approximately 40 years old, with the second floor recently raised about 10 years ago. The house accommodated five people.

At the time of the fire, no one was home, as Sanom was at another house in the Sakae Sam subdistrict, while his children and grandchildren were either at work or school, reported KhaoSod.

Police have commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, coordinating with forensic experts to examine the site thoroughly.
