Bangkok bus crash causes 18-vehicle pile-up on Phaya Thai Road
In the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city of Bangkok, a startling multi-vehicle collision occurred on Phaya Thai Road, right in front of the esteemed Chulalongkorn University. On this day, at 6:35pm, the Pathumwan Police Station was inundated with calls reporting a significant collision involving no fewer than 18 vehicles, which resulted in four individuals sustaining injuries.
The scene of the accident was chaotic, with an array of vehicles scattered across the road, damaged from the impact. The primary culprit behind the incident was identified as an air-conditioned bus, bearing the number 40.
This bus, in a domino-like sequence, crashed into numerous vehicles, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in 18 cars crashing into each other, much to the shock of onlookers and passers-by.
Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene, where they were met with the daunting task of navigating through the wreckage to reach the injured. Their efforts were successful, though, and they reported that there were four individuals who’d sustained injuries amidst the chaos.
The bus in question was operated by THAI SMILE BUS Co Ltd., who were quick to respond to the incident. The company initiated an immediate investigation into the actions of the driver, a 60 year old man.
Upon interrogation, the driver made a startling admission – it was a mistake on his part. He had intended to press the brake but, in a twist of fate, accidentally hit the accelerator instead. This mistake caused the bus to surge forward, colliding with the vehicles ahead with significant force, reported The Pattaya News.
Despite the driver’s confession, THAI SMILE BUS Co Ltd. stated that they would continue their investigation to ensure all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined before deciding on the appropriate penalties for the driver. The company’s proactive response to the incident and their promise of compensation for the victims served as a silver lining in this unfortunate event.
