Autistic children rescued from storm drain in Chon Buri district

Rescue teams spring into action after autistic siblings become trapped in storm drain

Two autistic children were rescued after becoming trapped in a storm drain in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district yesterday, April 30. Their cries for help were heard by locals, who guided rescuers to the scene.

At 4.50pm, Amata Khraikhruan, the head of the Plutaluang Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, was informed by residents that two children were stuck inside a storm drain on the road leading to the Navy House Village, Moo 5, Plutaluang subdistrict.

Responding to the situation, he directed the organisation’s disaster prevention and mitigation team to coordinate with the Sawang Rojanathamsathan Foundation’s rescue team for assistance.

Upon arrival, rescuers heard the cries of a girl and a boy coming from the drain, which was covered by a metal grate. Initial attempts to pry open the cover with a crowbar failed, prompting the team to use a grinder to cut the side of the grate.

Once opened, a ladder was used to climb down and safely bring the children up. The children were identified as autistic and had likely crawled into the drain out of curiosity from a nearby house.

They crawled along the drain, eventually losing their way and travelling nearly 500 metres from their home. Fortunately, a resident heard their cries and alerted others, leading to their rescue, reported KhaoSod.

Officials have advised the children’s guardians to closely monitor them to prevent such occurrences in the future.
