A tragic discovery was made when the body of a 71 year old man, who had been missing for 11 days from a hospital in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai, was found in a 2-metre-deep pit. The man from Mae Taeng had been admitted to Mae Taeng Hospital following an accident.

His disappearance on the night of October 25 prompted an extensive search involving family, locals, volunteers, and rescue teams using drones and other resources.

The search, which had persisted for several days, took a significant turn yesterday, November 5. Family members, in a renewed effort, conducted a spiritual ceremony to seek permission from local spirits to open the forest area situated behind Mae Taeng Hospital. This action was taken after the hospital’s CCTV footage last captured Preecha Chumjai walking towards the forested area.

The ceremony seemed to yield immediate results, as searchers soon stumbled upon a pair of slippers believed to belong to Preecha. This finding led them to an unpleasant odour emanating from approximately 50 metres away, behind a traditional Thai massage shop.

Following the scent, they discovered Preecha’s body at the bottom of a dry pit, roughly 2 metres deep. It is believed that during his walk through the forest at night, Preecha might have accidentally slipped into this pit, which was too deep for him to escape from, resulting in his demise after several days, reported KhaoSod.

Rescue personnel worked diligently to retrieve Preecha’s body from the pit. Once it was recovered, they conducted a preliminary examination before handing it over to his family for religious rites. The family plans to perform the necessary ceremonies according to their religious beliefs.

In related news, a shocking discovery was made when a young man, stopping by the roadside, found the body of a woman in a forest, 12 days after she had mysteriously disappeared. Her parents are questioning the circumstances of her death and have called for a thorough investigation.
