Truck collision at Bangkok checkpoint leaves three injured

A truck collision at a drink-driving checkpoint today left three people, including a traffic police officer, injured.

The incident occurred at 3am, today, March 25, in the Khan Na Yao district of Bangkok when a truck driven by 33 year old Suthep collided with a pickup truck and a police motorcycle.

The crash took place on a four-lane road near the entrance of Ram Inthra 69. The front left side of the Isuzu truck, registered in Bangkok, was severely damaged, with the left door detached.

The Mitsubishi pickup truck also registered in Bangkok, sustained significant damage from the impact and was found in the leftmost lane.

In addition, a police motorcycle was found overturned and damaged at the scene. A police officer with the rank of sergeant from Traffic Police Division 5 was injured while on duty at the checkpoint.

The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck, a man and a woman, were also injured and transported to Phyathai Nawamin Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, traffic police detained Suthep, who was later breathalysed and found to have no alcohol in his system. Suthep stated that he had been driving back to his workplace in the Romklao area after delivering steel rods in Kanchanaburi province.

He explained that he was reaching for his mobile phone when the accident occurred, claiming that other vehicles obscured his view, leading to the collision with the pickup truck.

Suthep insisted that he had not consumed alcohol before driving. The police at Khan Na Yao Station have taken him in for further questioning and conducted a drug test as part of the investigation process. Legal procedures are underway to address the incident, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, a family car collided with a herd of cattle on Road 24 in Buriram province, killing four cows and causing substantial damage to the vehicle.

The accident took place early on March 18, around 3am, approximately 500 meters past the Prakhon Chai highway maintenance unit, on the road heading to Nang Rong district.
