Transport worker arrested for stealing amulets worth 16 million baht

A 36 year old employee of a transport company was arrested for stealing sacred Ai Khai amulets worth 16 million baht. Trusted with keys to a storage room, he allegedly took the items to sell last year.
Yesterday, April 20, at 4pm, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, along with other senior officers, reported the arrest of Thanaphat at his residence in Soi Nawamin 111, Bueng Kum district, Bangkok. Items recovered include a gold-plated Ai Khai statue and various medallions.
The incident dates back to April 10, when Sirawit, also known as Joke Ram Inthra, a renowned amulet collector, reported the theft. The accused, employed by a known associate’s transport company, allegedly broke into the storage room and stole several valuable amulets from Wat Chedi.
The police investigation found evidence of forced entry and substantial amounts of the stolen items still in the storage room. CCTV footage identified Thanaphat as the perpetrator, entering on multiple days between March 31 and April 10, using a key he was entrusted with. Subsequently, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
During questioning, Thanaphat confessed to stealing the amulets and hiding some at a dormitory in Soi Nawamin 74-1-9-4, Bueng Kum district, Bangkok. He led the officers to the location, where additional items were seized.
He admitted to selling some of the stolen goods to buy a car and other valuable items. Although he claims the thefts began in April last year, police suspect he may have committed as many as 50 to 60 thefts previously, given his access to the storage facility and possession of the keys.
Thanaphat, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to the investigation officers at Min Buri police station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, Wichit Police have apprehended two people linked to a bold robbery at the CP Gold Master store, where a gold bracelet valued at over 100,000 baht was stolen.
The incident occurred shortly after 3.20 pm on March 31, when the thief, dressed in women’s attire, seized the expensive bracelet and made a quick getaway on a motorcycle.
