Student injured by car running red light in Bangkok

A vehicle ran a red light and struck a student from Suankularb School while he was crossing a zebra crossing, causing injuries. The driver claimed unfamiliarity with the area and was distracted by her GPS. Police have pressed charges.

Today, February 13, Police Lieutenant Colonel Seksan Chumchaem, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic at Phra Ratchawang, reported the incident occurred on February 10 at approximately 2.50pm on Tri Phet Road, outside Suankularb Wittayalai School in Wang Burapha Phirom subdistrict, Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok.

The victim was identified as a 14 year old male student in grade 9 crossing the street.

The driver, identified as Chanjira, was driving a red Toyota when she collided with the student at the crossing in front of the school. Emergency services promptly transported the injured student to Klang Hospital, reported KhaoSod.

Police have charged the driver with running a red light and reckless driving, which resulted in physical or psychological harm to others, following the law.

Tragically, just metres away, lay the lifeless body of 50 year old Issaree Khampongphawat. Her remains were respectfully cloaked in a white sheet before being transported to a local hospital.
