Chinese man caught in Bangkok for 50 million baht fraud

Thai Tourist Police apprehended a Chinese man accused of fraud amounting to over 50 million baht.
Under orders from Police General Kittirat Phanphet, law enforcement intensified efforts against crime, particularly targeting those involved in firearms offences and those with outstanding warrants, ahead of the Songkran festival.
Police Lieutenant General Saksira Phuak-am, the Commissioner of the Tourist Police, along with Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Phongsayam Mikhanthong, issued an urgent directive dated March 20.
The directive was aimed at a crackdown on crime concerning firearms and those with outstanding warrants, spanning from March 21 to 31, aligning with the national police policy and addressing other related crimes impacting the tourism industry.
Police Colonel Man Rotthong, the Superintendent of the Tourist Police Division, instructed Police Lieutenant Piyapong Bukhuntos, the Inspector of the Tourist Police Division, and the investigation team to monitor foreign individuals violating laws in Thailand.
During their investigation, they identified a suspect, a Chinese national, standing near a coffee shop in the Huai Khwang area of Bangkok. Upon verification, it was confirmed that he was wanted under an arrest warrant.
The arresting officers detained 30 year old Wu on charges of fraud involving damages exceeding 50 million baht. This was in accordance with the arrest warrant issued by the Phra Nakhon Nuea Court, numbered 199/2025.
Following his arrest, Wu was handed over to the Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, immigration officers in Bangkok arrested a Chinese man at a luxury hotel in Ratchaprasong, where he had been evading fraud charges related to embezzling billions of baht.
The suspect, who had assumed a new identity and acquired Vanuatu nationality on March 22, was detained following a tip-off.
The Immigration Bureau, acting on a directive issued in early March to strengthen crime prevention, particularly targeting illegal immigration and foreign criminals, intensified its efforts.
Investigators, led by the Commander of Immigration Division 1, focused on tracking the suspect after receiving intelligence reports pointing to his location in central Bangkok.
