AirAsia expands Thai network with new routes from Suvarnabhumi
AirAsia is ramping up its domestic game with the launch of two brand-new routes from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, offering twice-daily flights to Udon Thani and a daily service to Khon Kaen.
The budget airline is doubling down on Suvarnabhumi as a major hub, adding to its existing domestic connections, which include six daily flights to Chiang Mai, four to Phuket, and two each to Krabi and Hat Yai.
This expansion strengthens Suvarnabhumi’s role as a gateway for international travellers while bolstering AirAsia’s reputation for reliability, ranked No. 1 in Thailand and among the top five in Asia Pacific for on-time performance by Cirium.
Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya highlighted the booming domestic market and AirAsia’s aggressive response.
“The domestic market is growing rapidly, and we are strategically expanding at Suvarnabhumi to offer seamless international connections.”
Last year, Thai AirAsia dominated the domestic market with a 40% share and an impressive 93% load factor. To support its expansion, the airline is increasing its Airbus fleet at Suvarnabhumi from four aircraft this month to six by year-end.
“Our goal is to be the airline with the most domestic routes from Suvarnabhumi.”
To mark the inaugural flights on February 1, AirAsia, in collaboration with Suvarnabhumi Airport, Udon Thani Airport, Khon Kaen Airport, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, welcomed passengers with special souvenirs, showcasing the airline’s commitment to providing seamless, affordable, and memorable travel experiences, reported Travel Daily News.
In similar news, Southeast Asia’s aviation industry is soaring, with major airports experiencing impressive growth in seat capacity, driven by surging travel demand, expanded airline networks, and improved connectivity.
Leading the way is Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, which added a staggering 407,000 seats in January, a 16% year-on-year increase. As Thailand’s primary tourist gateway and transit hub, Suvarnabhumi continues to dominate the region amid the country’s tourism resurgence.
