Man arrested after car crash reveals 3.2 million meth pills
A man involved in drug trafficking was apprehended after his car crashed into an electricity pole during an attempted escape from police. Police seized over 3.2 million methamphetamine pills. The incident occurred on February 4 at Mueang district, Mukdahan province.
Police Lieutenant General Chatchai Surachetphong, head of Region 4, along with Mukdahan governor Worayan Boonnarat, Deputy Police Lieutenant General Kittisak Chamratprasert, and other security officials, held a press conference regarding the operation.
The operation, named Seal Stop Safe, targeted drug trafficking along the border and resulted in the confiscation of approximately 3,220,000 methamphetamine pills, a vehicle used for drug transportation, and the arrest of a suspect.
The investigation was led by Police Colonel Phairoj Thaiputra, who had received intelligence about an impending drug trafficking operation in Mukdahan province. Police Colonel Wichit Boonwan and his investigation team were tasked with monitoring the suspected traffickers.
Information from an informant on February 2 at around 3pm indicated that a significant drug shipment would be transported from Mueang district to Khon Kaen province later that night.
The operation involved a black Toyota Wish with Mukdahan registration, suspected to be used for smuggling. A green Ford pickup truck with Bangkok registration was reported to be leading the way.
Based on this information, police set up a plan to intercept the vehicles along the reported route. At around 10pm, Pol. Col. Wichit and his team spotted the two target vehicles near the 82nd Year Bypass Road.
The police pursued the cars for over 10 kilometres before they attempted to stop them. The green Ford truck managed to escape, but the black sedan reversed rapidly and collided with an electricity pole in front of Modcharoen Transport in Mueang district, Mukdahan.
The driver, identified as 32 year old Chok, attempted to flee but was captured by police. Upon searching the sedan, officers discovered 10 large black sacks containing 322 yellow packages, each marked with the symbol 999 and a red bow, totalling approximately 3,220,000 methamphetamine pills, reported KhaoSod.
The drugs were seized as evidence, and Chok was charged accordingly. The suspect, along with the evidence, was handed over to investigators at Mueang Mukdahan Police Station for further legal proceedings.
