Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for Thailand regions
Flood risks rise as turbulent weather threatens northern provinces

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts thunderstorms and strong winds in upper northern and northeastern Thailand on August 6, with heavy rain in several provinces. Residents are advised to be cautious of potential flooding or other weather-related hazards.
A low-pressure system over northern Vietnam, coupled with a prevailing southwesterly monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, is influencing these conditions.
Provinces expected to experience heavy rain include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun.
The Andaman Sea is expected to have moderate waves, with wave heights reaching 1 to 2 metres, increasing to over 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.
For the northern region, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area with some strong winds, particularly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, and Nan. Temperatures will range from 23 to 27 degrees Celsius with highs of 32 to 36 degrees Celsius. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
In the northeastern region, 40% of the area will experience thunderstorms with strong winds, especially in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, and Nakhon Phanom. Temperatures will vary between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, peaking at 33 and 37 degrees Celsius, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
Central Thailand will see thunderstorms in 40% of the area, primarily in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Nakhon Pathom. Temperatures are predicted to be between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius, reaching highs of 34 and 37 degrees Celsius, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the eastern region, thunderstorms will occur in 40% of the area, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius and highs of 32 to 36 degrees Celsius. Southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour are expected, with waves up to 1 metre high, rising to over 2 metres in stormy areas.
Southern Thailand (eastern coast) will have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, with highs of 33 to 35 degrees Celsius, and southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. Wave heights will be approximately 1 metre, increasing to over 2 metres in stormy areas.
The southern region (western coast) will see 60% of the area experiencing thunderstorms and heavy rain, mainly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, with highs of 29 to 33 degrees Celsius.
From Phang Nga upwards, southwesterly winds will blow at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour, with waves 1 to 2 metres high, increasing to over 2 metres in stormy areas. From Phuket downwards, winds will be 15 to 30 kilometres per hour, with waves about 1 metre high, rising in stormy conditions.
Bangkok and surrounding areas will have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with some strong winds. Temperatures will range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius, with highs of 33 to 36 degrees Celsius and southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour, reported KhaoSod.
