Thailand prepares for flooding as offshore weather worsens
Unstable conditions trigger weather warnings across the country

Thailand is bracing for widespread thunderstorms and flood risks as a tropical storm develops offshore, bringing unstable weather to several regions nationwide.
Thailand is set for more scattered downpours as a tropical depression forming over the Pacific Ocean gears up to cross into the South China Sea between tomorrow, October 3, and Saturday, October 4. The storm is forecast to intensify before making landfall in upper Vietnam on October 5 or 6.
Although rainfall is easing in some areas of Thailand, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued warnings of isolated heavy rain in the western parts of North and central Thailand. Residents in foothill communities, low-lying areas, and regions near waterways are being urged to remain vigilant for flash floods and water overflows.
The TMD warned the public to take extra caution, particularly in areas prone to heavy rain accumulation.
The prevailing weather pattern includes an easterly wind sweeping across the Northeast, East, and Gulf of Thailand, while a weakened southwest monsoon continues to affect the Andaman Sea and parts of the South. This combination is expected to cause unstable weather conditions and rough seas, especially during thunderstorms. Wind and wave activity in the upper Andaman Sea will reach 1 to 2 metres in general, surging above 2 metres during thundershowers. All ships are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing near storm cells.

The weather forecast from 6am today, October 2, to 6am tomorrow, October 3, is as follows:
In North Thailand, provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Sukhothai, and Tak can expect scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 22 to 25°C to a maximum of 30 to 34°C, with light and variable winds of 10 to 20 km/h.

The west coast, including Phang Nga, Krabi, and Trang, will also experience scattered thundershowers. Morning temperatures will be between 22 and 25°C, while the daytime high will range from 32 to 34°C. From Phang Nga northward, southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 35 km/h, with sea waves reaching 1 to 2 metres and rising above 2 metres in thunderstorms.
