Toll fee waived on key expressways and motorways for Songkran

The Transport Ministry will waive toll and expressway fees on several key routes during Songkran as part of a 10-day travel safety plan running from April 10 to 19. It aims to cut crashes, deaths and injuries on the ministry’s road network by at least 5%.

The campaign is being run under the slogan “No matter what time you leave, you’ll get home all the same. Smart Travel Songkran 2026”. As part of the measures, several routes will be free to use during the holiday period through toll and expressway fee exemptions.

Motorway 6, which is under construction, will be opened along the full route from Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima.

The Bang Pa-in–Pak Chong section will operate outbound from Bangkok from April 10 to 13, then inbound to Bangkok from April 14 to 19, while the Pak Chong–Nakhon Ratchasima section will be open in both directions.

Motorway 82 from the Bang Khun Thian interchange to Ekkachai, a 10-kilometre stretch, will be open every day, 24 hours a day.

In a separate development, air fares on selected domestic routes will be cut by 15 to 30% over the Songkran holiday period, Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) has said, as it works with six major airlines to ease travel costs during one of the year’s busiest travel peaks.

The measures include fare reductions of 15% to 30% on 11 popular return routes, including Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Samui, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Krabi. It covers a total of 191 flights and adds more than 29,685 seats, with travel dates set for April 10 to 15.
