Krabi businesses battle to survive the tourist crisis | VIDEO

Published

Ao Nang beach, usually a thriving hub for backpackers and day trippers, is doing it tough. But the local business people want you to know that it’s open for business and the area is still beautiful and more more pristine than ever.

There are currently 5 airlines flying into Krabi at the moment, most with multiple flights each day. That situation will change over time but you have plenty of choices from both Bangkok airports. And with the extended Krabi airport coming on line sometime in 2022, the whole airport experience will certainly continue to improve. Otherwise Krabi is an easy 3 hour drive from Phuket and there are bus services from Bangkok and other provinces almost every day, even at the moment.

Tim Newton dropped into the sleepy town on a sunny Sunday afternoon to witness a little tourist strip battling for survival.

If this minister is sincere about welcoming tourists back to Krabi he should stop the extra price a tourist has to pay on Krabi, sometimes five times more.
They hide it by showing the Thai price in Thai script.
They know it is wrong but the Thai mentality of greed and corruption compels them to do this.
Well once it becomes common knowledge, they will wonder where the foreign tourists are.
Die Krabi. Go back to fishing.

Songkran will be a very good time to go to Krabi / Ao Nang. We got special discount on hotel and we go with the all family. Good flight connection, not too many tourists, beaches very beautiful and it will help tourism operators to survive.

And yet on Booking.com I see no reductions in rates throughout the south to tempt people to stay. Worst example: at Khao Sok national park they’re asking 22 to 80,000 to stay three nights in a simple bungalow on the lake.

Good time for authorities to clean up(fix it ) the streams of black sewage going directly to the Ao Nang bay.Unfortunately it will never happen since they don’t care.

Unfortunately then some never learn. Greed and corruption is part of society here be it fuket or krabi etc.

I used to go to Ao nang 20 years ago and it was beautiful, I went 2 years ago and it was a shit hole full of way overpriced bars and restaurants and a dirty bay, no sympathy for them.

I’ve just checked how to go there. Plane = paperwork and an over-priced test, bus = paperwork, van? No tickets will be given to foreigners + paperwork. How will they ever be back to normal if they make it so difficult for everyone?

Great, I love Krabi. Had a fantastic time there last year. Just open the borders and I’ll come.
