3 dead in Lopburi pickup and 10-wheel truck crash on Route 21
A devastating accident occurred last night when a pickup truck transporting villagers to a funeral attempted a U-turn but failed to spot an oncoming 10-wheel truck. This resulted in a severe rear collision, causing a chain reaction that damaged nine additional vehicles and left the road strewn with injuries. Tragically, the incident claimed three lives.
The accident took place on the Pukhae-Lomsak Road, Route 21, in Koh Kwang Village, located in Lopburi province, yesterday, November 6. The chaos unfolded near a house hosting a funeral, with the pickup, a green Nissan registered in Lopburi, becoming the epicentre of the calamity.
The pickup not only suffered extensive rear damage but also collided with nine motorcycles parked along the roadside, adding to the scene’s devastation, reported Thanapol Kaewbariwong, a deputy inspector from Khok Salung Police Station.
“The 10-wheel lorry, a Hino registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, stood in the middle of the road with visible damage to its front.”
Both male and female passengers from the pickup were left scattered across the road, pleading for help amidst their injuries.
Emergency services, volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and medical personnel from Phatthana Nikhom Hospital rushed to the scene. They quickly transported the injured to the hospital, where some required immediate resuscitation efforts.
Unfortunately, three people, identified only as Singha, Wanphen, and Amphon, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. All three were residents of Khok Salung village. Meanwhile, 10 other injured individuals remain hospitalised, receiving necessary medical care.
Chuan, the pickup driver who sustained minor injuries, recounted the events leading up to the accident. He explained that he was driving villagers from Khok Salung to attend the funeral.
As he attempted the U-turn, he failed to notice the 10-wheel truck approaching from the left. This oversight resulted in the truck striking the pickup from behind, which caused the pickup to lose control and crash into the parked motorcycles, ultimately leading to tragic injuries and fatalities, reported KhaoSod.
“I didn’t see the truck coming. The impact was so sudden and strong that there was nothing I could do,” Chuan said, reflecting on the harrowing moments of the accident.
