Three dead in Kanchanaphisek Road multi-vehicle collision
A tragic multi-vehicle collision on Kanchanaphisek Road resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries early today. The incident involved an 18-wheeler truck, a lorry carrying flour, a black Toyota Fortuner, and a white Toyota pickup truck.
At around 2.30am, police received a report about a serious accident with several casualties at kilometre marker 7+600 on Kanchanaphisek Road, heading towards Bang Na, in Khlong Sam subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Thawornsap from Highway Patrol Division 2, along with rescue personnel and volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation, promptly arrived at the scene with the necessary rescue equipment.
Upon their arrival, officials found a white Hino 18-wheeler truck, registered in Bangkok, had collided with a white Isuzu truck carrying flour, also registered in Bangkok. The impact caused the truck to overturn, blocking all three lanes of the road.
Nearby, a black Toyota Fortuner and a white Toyota pickup truck, both registered in Bangkok, were found severely damaged from the collision. The driver of the Fortuner, identified as 51 year old Naphat Phantaveekan, owner of a car dealership, was injured and transported to Bangpakok 2 Rangsit Hospital.
Tragically, three individuals in the pickup truck lost their lives. The victims were identified as 29 year old Parawit Kaewphu from Soi Charoen Phatthana 4 in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district; 42 year old Songkran Ounsantia, from Soi Ramkhamhaeng 109/2 in Min Buri district, Bangkok; and 32 year old Witthawat Wongwian, from Moo 6, Si Suk subdistrict, Si Narong district, Surin province.
Emergency responders used cutting equipment to extract the deceased from the wreckage. The initial investigation suggests that the driver of the 18-wheeler was travelling in the left lane when they swerved to avoid a parked vehicle, causing a collision with the flour-laden truck in the second lane. The truck overturned, obstructing the road, which led to the pickup truck in the right lane crashing into it, followed by the Fortuner that was trailing behind, reported KhaoSod.
Lt. Col. Chatchai documented the scene and coordinated with crane and tow truck services to clear the vehicles and reopen the road. Both drivers of the 18-wheeler and the truck were taken in for further questioning to determine the exact cause of the accident.
