Garbage truck tragedy in Ayutthaya leaves driver dead
In Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, a tragic accident occurred when a garbage truck rolled into a canal, fatally trapping the driver under its wheels. Emergency services had to employ a crane to retrieve both the vehicle and the man.
Yesterday, January 21, Police Captain Bunchoed Chuedbaramee from Uthai Police Station, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, was notified of a fatal incident involving a six-wheeled truck near a multipurpose dome in Moo 7, Khan Ham subdistrict, Uthai district. Accompanied by Uthai Hospital medical staff and Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association personnel, he discovered a white garbage truck partially submerged in the canal.
The body of 55 year old garbage truck driver, Manop Jaritsue, was found under the front right wheel, with only his lower body visible above the water. He was employed by the Khan Ham subdistrict administrative organisation. A crane was summoned to extract both the truck and his body from the canal.
Manop’s 58 year old brother, Juang, recounted that the man had parked the garbage truck in the parking lot to clean it earlier that evening. While Juang and the locals were conversing inside the dome, they observed the vehicle slowly reversing.
Initially, they assumed Manop was repositioning the truck. However, the truck continued reversing into the canal until it was half-submerged.
Witnesses rushed to the scene and, upon failing to locate him inside the vehicle, discovered Manop trapped beneath the wheel. Juang speculated that while Manop was cleaning the truck, he noticed it rolling backwards, prompting him to open the driver’s side door to engage the brake, reported KhaoSod.
Unfortunately, he was too late, resulting in the vehicle plunging into the canal and causing his untimely death.
In related news, a dramatic accident occurred when a car and a pickup truck plunged into a drainage canal beside a road in Bangkok, submerging both vehicles and leaving five people injured from water inhalation. Rescuers promptly assisted and transported the injured to hospital for urgent care.
