A tragic incident took place at 9.30am today when an 18-wheel truck collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a local street vendor. The event occurred on the temporary two-lane road in front of the Luang Por Utama temple, in the city of Chachoengsao.

The police and emergency medical services from the Buddha Sothon Hospital were promptly on the scene.

The road, a relatively new construction, was the scene of devastation. The deceased, identified as Boonrueng, a 44 year old woman, was found with her helmet crushed under the rear wheels of the truck.

Her brain matter was scattered across the road, indicating a fatal head injury. The middle wheels of the truck had a piece of the motorcycle’s exhaust pipe wedged underneath, signifying the impact of the collision.

The front of the truck, an Isuzu with registration 81-9556 Chon Buri, was carrying a full load of cement pipes. The woman’s motorcycle, a Honda Scoopy-i with registration 2กม5421 Ubon Ratchathani, was found compressed under the truck’s wheels.

The truck driver, 27 year old Thanawut, had to reverse his vehicle to allow the medical examiner to retrieve the body, reported KhaoSod.

Motorcycle tragedy

Thanawut explained that he was transporting the cement pipes from Chon Buri to the Ban Saeng district in Prachinburi. He noticed Boonrueng’s motorcycle about to dash out onto the road and sounded his horn as a warning.

However, Boonrueng still drove out, giving him no time to brake due to the heavy load of his truck. As a result, he crashed into her, her head was run over, and her body dragged along the road before he could come to a stop.

Boonrueng’s husband, 35 year old Piyanan, rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. He was seen holding onto the cloth covering his deceased wife.

He revealed that his wife made a living selling grilled chicken with sticky rice. At the time of the accident, she was probably on her way to the market in the city centre to shop for supplies.

For now, the police have taken Thanawut to the Chachoengsao Municipality Police Station for further investigation. Boonrueng’s body has been taken to Buddha Sothon Hospital pending the completion of paperwork by her relatives.

Footage from the truck’s front camera revealed that the motorcycle cut across the lane to make a U-turn, directly in the path of the truck. Despite the truck’s warning horn, the motorcycle still charged out, leading to the truck, fully loaded with large cement pipes, unable to brake in time, hitting the motorcycle and causing the rider’s death.
