PM Paetongtarn thanks foreign leaders for congratulatory messages
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra extended her gratitude to foreign leaders yesterday for their congratulations on her appointment as Thailand’s 31st premier. She also reiterated Thailand’s dedication to enhancing multilateral cooperation to benefit all countries in the region.
PM Paetongtarn used her X account (formerly Twitter) to respond to messages from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I reaffirm the close friendship and strategic partnership between Thailand and Cambodia,” Paetongtarn conveyed to Hun Manet, who was one of the first leaders to send his congratulations to the newly appointed Thai PM.
With the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Thailand approaching next year, she expressed her commitment to working closely with her Cambodian counterpart to elevate bilateral ties.
Addressing the Malaysian prime minister, Paetongtarn highlighted the enduring friendship and partnership between Thailand and Malaysia.
“Our relations have seen very positive momentum, thanks to the close partnership between Anwar and my predecessor, Srettha Thavisin. I look forward to bolstering our friendship and cooperation for the benefit of both countries.”
In her thank-you message to Singaporean Prime Minister Wong, the new Thai prime minister emphasised the strong and enduring partnership between Thailand and Singapore. As the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations approaches next year, she expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Wong to enhance regional cooperation.
The 37 year old Thai premier also expressed her gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Modi for his kind words and expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and tourism between the two countries, reported Bangkok Post.
In related news, PM Paetongtarn, recently elected as Thailand’s 31st and youngest PM, announced stringent background checks for the Cabinet candidates to ensure legal compliance and avoid past administrative issues. Speaking at the National Defence College, Paetongtarn emphasised the importance of thorough vetting.
