Speeding concerns rise in Pattaya following motorcycle accident on Beach Road
Concerns about speeding vehicles on Beach Road in Pattaya have been raised once again following an accident involving a motorcyclist over the weekend. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when the motorcyclist collided with a parked taxi, resulting in severe injuries.
The injured motorcyclist, identified as Tatchaphonsit Jirasatirakul, was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place on Second Road near the entrance to Soi 13/2 at 3.30am when the 31 year old rider crashed into the back of a metered cab, which was occupied by 66 year old driver Surin Khaosaard.
The accident occurred on a narrow road that has been under construction for two years, making it a hazardous stretch to drive on. With poor warning signs and vehicles parked on the narrow road, residents are concerned about the safety of drivers and pedestrians alike.
This accident is not the first to occur in the seaside resort, with residents repeatedly raising concerns about the number of speeding cars and motorbikes on Beach Road, making it difficult to cross safely. To combat the issue, Pattaya Police and City officials ended parking on the beach side of Beach Road in early March, which received widespread praise on social media. However, this has made it more challenging for residents to cross the road.
Following the accident, many residents are urging Pattaya City officials to take further steps to improve safety on the roads. Suggestions include fixing crosswalk lights, repainting them, and having traffic policemen them during peak hours. Additionally, strict speed limits with regular enforcement and the installation of speed bumps or raised walkways near Central Pattaya Klang have also been suggested as potential solutions.
The road on which the accident took place, Second Road, has been under construction for the past two years, causing further concerns about the area’s safety. The narrow road, and its pockmarked surface, ditches, and road barriers make for dangerous driving conditions. Vehicles parked on the narrow road also present a danger to passing traffic.
This accident serves as a reminder of the need for improved safety measures on Pattaya’s roads, particularly regarding speeding vehicles. While the measures implemented so far have been a step in the right direction, more needs to be done to ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
